School students suffer as teaching posts unfulfilled

POST REPORT

SALYAN, DEC 25 - Hundreds of students at the primary level have been deprived of basic education due to a lack of teachers for a long time.
The switching of the teachers at the primary level of education to either the lower secondary level or to the secondary level of education has been one of the main reasons for the shortage of teachers to teach at the primary level schools. While the other reason being the result of the test of the Teachers Selection Commission, conducted in 1994/95, for the primary school level teachers not being published even to this day.
Of the 319 primary schools existing in this district, the posts of primary level teacher in 35 to 40 schools are still vacant with just one teacher to manage the teaching of the entire school.
Binod Gautom, the District Education Officer (DEO), contends that most of the posts of the primary level teachers in these primary schools could not been filled as the result of the primary teachers have not be published.
Since there is just one teacher in most of these primary schools, most of the students return home without attending a single class. Being deprived of basic primary education, the students have begun to suffer. The students have been going to school just for merriment and play rather than for gaining knowledge.
All these have been slackening the progress of the primary level of education mostly in the rural parts, and the education system of this district as a whole is going to be suffering immensely, observed the DEO Gautom.Posted on: 2003-12-26 04:31
