National badminton from Dec 30

KATHMANDU, DEC 25 - Nepal Police’s Central Sports Department is all set to organise the First National Open Badminton Championship from December 30 at the Mahendra Police Club premises to celebrate prince Paras’s 33rd birthday.
The tournament will offer the highest ever prize money - about Rs. 200,000 - in badminton tournament, announced the organizing committee’s chairman Additional Inspector General of Police Rajendra Bahadur Singh in a press conference here today. The tournament will conclude on January 3, 2004.
More than 200 players from 17 districts and a few clubs in capital are expected to compete in six events - Men’s Single, Men’s Double, Ladies’ Singles, Ladies’ Double, Junior Single and Veteran Double, according to Singh. The winner in Men’s Singles will pocket Rs. 20,000 cash while winners of Men’s Doubles and Ladies’ Singles will pocket Rs. 15,000 each. Even the quaterfinalists in Men’s Singles and Junior’s Singles will walk out with cash prize.Posted on: 2003-12-26 04:25
