Flower series postage stamps out

KATHMANDU, DEC 24 - Minister for Information and Communications Kamal Thapa affixed the first cancellation mark on the commemorative postage coverage on ‘Flower Series and Visit Nepal Series’ issued by Nepal Philatelic Bureau, Kathmandu.
The flower series postage stamps brought in use from today under the philatelic programme -2003 portray colourful pictures of flowers found in different parts of the Kingdom like Lotus, Picrorhiza, Himalayan Rhubarb and Night Jasmine. These postage stamps have been designed based on the photographs taken by Kuber Jung Malla and professor Ram Prasad Chaudhari.
The stamps with a denomination of Rs 10 each are in four colours. Likewise, the visit Nepal series postage stamps portray the pictures of Bhuddha (Swayambhu), Ganesh (Kageswhar) and Kali Gandaki ‘A’ Hydro-electric Project.
The denomination of the stamps portraying Buddha, Ganesh and the hydro-project is Rs 30, Rs 5 and Rs 5 respectively, and the number published is half million, one million and one million respectively.
The designer of the visit Nepal series is Mo-Han Rana and that of flower series is K.K. Karmacharya.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Thapa said the publication of the stamps portraying flowers and historical monuments and places would contribute substantially in the preservation of cultural and natural heritages and promoting Nepal’s image in the international community. Director-general of the Department of Postal Services Sridhar Gautam shed light on various aspects of the stamps issued today.Posted on: 2003-12-25 05:07
