5 killed in separate highway accidents

DHADING, FEB 08 -
Two people were killed and three others went missing when a truck plunged into the Trishuli River at Pida along the Prithvi Highway in Dhading district on early Monday morning.

The Kathmandu-bound vehicle skidded off the road and fell nearly 100 m down into the river at around 2:30 a.m., police said.

The deceased have been identified as Hadim Miya and Mukesh Mahato. However, the addresses of the deceased are yet to be ascertained.

The Area Police Office at Gajuri said that three other passengers were still missing. Similarly, three died and 20 others were injured, seven seriously, when a passenger bus they were travelling in met with an accident at Daunne along the East-West Highway in Nawalparasi district on Monday. Jagannath Bhandari of Nawalparasi died on the spot while Parashuram Sapkota of Gulmi and Suman Kumar Rijal of Bardia succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment, police said.

The bus, which was heading to Dhangadhi from Kathmandu, veered off the road and turned turtle. The injured are being treated at Butwal -based Lumbini Zonal Hospital.
