King has crossed barriers: Deuba
KATHMANDU, DEC 23 - Deposed Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has accused the king of appointing a ‘most corrupt’ panchayati leader in the Prime Minister’s post by ridiculing his stance to choose a clean one.
Speaking at an interaction on ‘Current Political Crisis and Its Solution’ in the capital today, Deuba alleged that the king was attacking on democracy in pretext of penalising the wrongdoer leaders.
"King has crossed the constitutional barriers in his bid to fix the leaders," he said.
Blaming the king for undermining the pro-constitutional forces for his parochial interests, he further said that the king and the Maoists were seeking a new constitution as per their own convenience.
Condemning the arrest of student leaders, he said that it was undemocratic act of the government to impose charge of sedition on students simply on the ground that they chanted anti-king slogans. "Some, who are holding guns to abolish monarchy are not arrested but why these peaceful protesters are arrested?" he questioned.
Speaking at the programme, Pradip Gyawali of the CPN-UML said his party was ready to accept Deuba as the new Prime Minister if the Deuba-led party agreed to common agenda of the political parties for the ongoing movement.
"There is a need for correcting more than 50 per cent slogans of NC (Democratic) if it is to be included the joint movement," Gyawali added. "Present movement should be led towards an agenda for a new constitution."
He also urged the king to look back at his 15 months of misrule and take immediate measures to stop the situation going from bad to worst. Hridayesh Tripathi, general secretary of Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Anandidevi) said the problems, which were dogging the country for years would remain intact until and unless the country was restructured through constituent assembly election.
CP Mainali of the CPN-ML stressed the need for an all-party government to implement a package programme.Posted on: 2003-12-24 05:10
