FSP declares protest programme
SARLAHI, DEC 20 - Federation of Sugarcane Producers (FSP) has announced to stage phrase-wise protest from December 20 against the decision of slashing the sugarcane price. The announcement was made during the ESP ‘s central meeting held today.
As per the programme, we will inform all the sugar cane farmers to not cut the sugarcanes on December 20 and will stage a sit-in protest in mills and submit memorandum to the Prime Minister through the district administration office on December 21, said Kapil Muni Mainali, the ESP President.
He also added that they are going to restrict movement of vehicle belonging to the mills on December 22 and 23. They have also set up a program to hold rallies in the district headquarters on December 24.
“If the price of sugar cane is not increased by then, we will be forced to stir more stringent protests,” he added. Meanwhile, Indushankar Sugar Mill that had decided to operate from today has failed to come into operation as the farmers refused to sell their sugarcane sticks, citing low price.
“We have been unable to begin the operation of the mill on stipulated date due to the lack of sugarcane,” said Krishna Chandra Das, General Manager of the mill. Posted on: 2003-12-21 02:24
