Minimum prices for coffee fixed
KATHMANDU, DEC 20 - National Tea and Coffee Development Board on Friday fixed minimum prices for dry cherry coffee and fresh coffee for the current fiscal year.
As per the decision made public, prices for dry cherry, which is categorised into three grades— A, B, C depending on moisture content, size and types, among others, has been fixed at Rs 80, Rs 60 and Rs 50 per kg.
Likewise, minimum prices for high quality fresh coffee rinsed in water has been fixed at Rs 27 per kg, while medium quality water rinsed fresh coffee has been fixed at Rs 23 per kg. Freshly plucked average quality coffee is, meanwhile, fixed at a minimum price of Rs 18 per kilogram.
Decision in this regard was taken as per the understanding reached between the coffee farmers and experts in coffee marketing, states a press release issued by the National Tea and Coffee Development Board.
At a meeting attended by coffee buyers, sellers and farmers, the board officials also laid emphasis on enhancing the quality of local coffee production and also on the need to promote the coffee production, adds the release.
