Securitymen kill son, father seeks justice
DOLAKHA, DEC 20 - Tanka Prasad Bhandari, an elderly from Melung in northern Dolakha, came to Charikot, the district headquarters, recently, to seek justice for his innocent son who was shot dead by security personnel a month ago.
A team of securitymen had shot dead his 28-year-old son Hari Shankar Bhandari at the veranda of his house on November 19 while he was counting money. “Supposing him a Maoist extorting money from our house, the security personnel killed my son. My daughter-in-law had stood as a shield shouting that he was not Maoist, but they didn’t spare him,” lamented the elderly.
The same day, an unidentified person was killed near Bhandari’s house and the security personnel have already declared both of them as Maoists, which Bhandari and the villagers disagree.
Right after the incident, he had mailed a complaint letter to the Chief District Officer (CDO) demanding justice for the killing of his innocent son. But after receiving no response from the CDO, he came to the district headquarters to do a follow up.
Unaware of the death of their father his grand children, a four-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter, ask about their father. “What to tell them,” sobbed the old man.
“The daughter-in-law has lost her mental balance. As a civil servant, I can’t stay at home.”.
Bhandari said that he met the CDO and has been assured of an investigation into the incident and due compensation.Posted on: 2003-12-21 01:56
