Dogs feast on corpses as villagers watch helplessly
MADHELI, SUNSARI, DEC 20 - A muddied white sweater is partly out of ground. Close by is a dog busy crushing bones and tugging at the flesh. Foul smell has meanwhile permeated as far away as one hundred metres.
“Look at that dog pulling at the knee right now. When I looked at it in the morning the leg was still intact but he seems to have eaten that now,” Ramji Sharma told this reporter, expressing concerns at the eventuality of the dog possibly unearthing the body and bringing it nearer his home. He is ready to suffer from the foul smell though.
In fact this is the scene from Madheli Village Development Committee (VDC) in Sunsari on Friday, with villagers discussing the pathetic scene.
In fact a rebel was reportedly killed on Tuesday in confrontation with the security forces. The Ministry of Defence had identified the deceased as Chandra Pariyar of Dhudhauli in Sindhuli and Ram Prasad Gautam of Rajghat, Morang.
The bodies were buried alongside the local canal. The village is barely 80 metre from the site of the grave. Since the graves were too shallow to ensure a long lasting burial, the dogs did the excavating act. Since the bodies have started decaying, foul smell marks the area.
Meanwhile, the villagers are left to watch the status of those who have been killed in the course of security check up. “I feel like giving them a proper burial but who knows we may still face hardship,” said Sharju Sharma, a local youth.
In fact the way the things stand anyone who gives them a proper burial, from a complete stranger to the police and district administration could land the people in trouble.
In fact Ramji who had come with desired implements to bury the bodies on Friday went back along with Sharju fearing possible punishment. In fact they were fearing the eventuality of the dogs bringing human flesh nearer their home.Posted on: 2003-12-21 01:55
