KMC accused of ‘unfair’ treatment

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, DEC 19 - Kathmanduites today, at the weekly public hearing accused the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) of nepotism while dealing with the issues of development and demolitions.
Most people present at the hearing expressed that the KMC was not being fair to the public. "We are still waiting for an end to the ban on the use and transaction of our land," a resident of the Dhobikhola corridor at Anamnagar stated, further adding, "Why are we not given exact information on why the ban is continuing?"
Residents of Gaushala also complained that the KMC demolished their construction for a track road but did not demolish constructions within confiscated land around the ring road.
They also complained that the KMC had not demolished several houses at the southern end of Gaushala-Chabahil, confiscated by the government. "They should have demolished that first."
"Why KMC doesn’t demolish constructions within the land separated for green belt area but demolish those in areas meant for the track road," they queried.Posted on: 2003-12-20 02:08
