Foundation for school building laid
KATHMANDU, DEC 18 - Shyam Saran, Ambassador of India to Nepal laid the foundation stone for the building of Gaurigunj Campus amid a function. According to the press statement issued by Indian Embassy here today, the campus building is to be called ‘Nepal Bharat Maitri Bhavan’ which will stand as an enduring symbol of the friendship between the two countries.
The statement also states that the Government of India has sanctioned assistance of Rs. 6.7 million for the construction of the campus building. A tripartite agreement was signed in July 2003 among the District Development Committee, Jhapa, Gauriganj Campus, Jhapa, and the Embassy of India, of providing assistance for the project.
The District Development Committee, Jhapa, will execute the construction of the Campus building in accordance with prescribed procedures. An oversight committee consisting of the chairman, vice-chairman and member of the Campus Managing Committee and the District Education Officer has been constituted to supervise the construction.
The statement further says that the local community has long felt the need for a campus building at Gauriganj Campus. The construction of the building of the campus is believed to go a long way in improving the educational infrastructure for the people of this district.
Meanwhile, according to another statement, issued here yesterday, the ambassador unveiled a plaque at Bhadrapur commemorating the upgradation of four km stretch of road from the Mechi river at Nepal-India border.
The statement also said that the government of India has given the grant assistance of RS. 4.5 million to the Municipality, which is the 82 per cent of the total cost of the project. The municipality has met the remaining 18 per cent of the cost. The project would go a long way in addressing the development needs of the area.
