Locals happy about KMC decision to expand road
KATHMANDU, DEC 18 - Locals fromSoalteemode to Kalanki seem to be happy with the decision of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC). It was the demolition of huts and sheds lying within 11meters from the road for road-widening scheme.
However, they are demanding for the proper compensation of their land and the houses within the area, and also appealing to the KMC to widen the road by 18 meters instead of 22 meters. According to them, if done accordingly, so many houses will remain safe and the road would also be wide.
Locals shared their views with the journalists of different media in the journalist-tour programme organised by the KMC here today.
Mayor Keshav Stathpit, informed at the press meet that KMC would just compensate the houses not the land. He informed that those with very less land would be relocated somewhere in the proper place and the remaining land would be taken by the KMC. He said KMC could re-think for at least 20 meters.
He said the road-expansion programme would compensate those who own enough land within the area. "If we widen the road, the rate of their land will increase rapidly. We don’t have to compensate them," he said.
He informed that the area was taken away by the government in 2022 BS so the KMC is not compelled to give compensation to those who has again built their houses within the confiscated area.Posted on: 2003-12-19 03:49
