Role of media in promotion of Nepali films mulled

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, DEC 17 - The media’s role for the promotion of the Nepali Film Industry was discussed at an interaction programme organised in the capital today by the Nepal Film Association (NFA). The association also unveiled its plans to conduct an award programme for Nepali movies, on the occasion."The sudden increase in the production of Nepali movies in 1998, was a direct consequence of the media’s increasing interest into the then nascent movie industry." said one speaker at the programme. "And more than ever, it is now incumbent upon the media persons to help this crippled industry get back on its feet," he added.Other speakers were of the opinion that the media wasn’t doing enough to encourage Nepali films. "The journalists should be a bridge between us, movie makers, and our audience." said Ashok Sharma, a popular producer and actor. It was also informed in the programme that the NFA, working in conjunction with 8 other organisations related to Nepali movies, will hand out the Nepal Motion Pictures Academy Awards in numerous categories. Scheduled to take place in July next year, the awards should be a catalyst for the much-needed spurt to get the film industry moving again - claim the organisers.
The awards programme will also be preceded by a weeklong promotion campaign in every development region of the nation.
Suggestions on how to improve the overall quality of the suggested programmes and reduce the inevitable disputes over the results, were requested from all those present at the interaction programme.Posted on: 2003-12-18 03:58
