One doctor manages District Hospital
KAPILVASTU, DEC 16 - Everyday more than a hundred patients arrive for treatment at the old district hospital, Prithvi Bir Hospital, situated in the district headquarters. Unfortunately, there is just one doctor in the entire hospital, and patients have to wait long hours for their turn. The only doctor present at the hospital has not been able to manage all the patients properly.
The situation developed after two out of the three doctors posted to this hospital took leave with government’s permission to continue with their further study. One of these doctors, Dr. Prabhakar Kumar Chaudhary, is doing MD in Pathology at Teaching Hospital situated in the capital, while the other, Dr. Chakradhar Mishra, is studying MD in Radiology at Bir Hospital. Dr. Chaudhary had been posted from Panchthar to this hospital, but arranged for his MD course, instead of working for this hospital. The duration of their course is three years.
Similarly, senior public health-care officer of the District Health Office (DHO) looking after the administration of the hospital, Singh Godar, has also left for further study further adding to the already alarming situation there. He is undergoing MPH at the Teaching Hospital.
It is learnt that, in the absence of these two doctors and the administrative officer, the only doctor left at this hospital, Dr. Altaf Hussein, is forced to handle the patients visiting the hospital with various ailments, and at the same time manages the administrative affairs of the hospital. Dr. Hussein, who is the senior medical superintendent of the hospital, said that he wants to specially draw the attention of the Health Ministry to the problem existing in the Prithvi Bir hospital.
