Forum for solid waste management proposed
KATHMANDU, DEC 15 - Experts and representatives of organisations related to solid waste management met today to establish a national level forum that would focus explicitly on the management, document ~ ~ tion and information dissemination on solid waste. Urban areas are experiencing increasing amounts of solid waste for which, it is felt, there is inadequate management.
Elaborating it is visions and goals, Co-ordinator of the proposed forum Murali Ranjit, said, "At present most of the organisations are working independently for the management of solid waste, this forum will provide a common platform for such organisations." Working on a common ground and with common vision would certainly help to ameliorate the deteriorating state of the environment, he opined.
Professor Hari Bansa Jha, Socio-economist at Centre for Economic and Technical Studies, commented that the visions and goals of the proposed forum were conceptually clear.
Ranjit informed that the proposed forum hopes to collaborate with different organisations working in the solid waste sector. Besides, the major focus will also be given to the compilation and document ~ ~ tion of the statistics related to the state of solid waste of the whole country, he added.
Personalities related to solid waste management, environmentalists and environmental students and representatives of Environmentalists Association of Nepal, Friends of the Earth Nepal and The Envision Nepal were also present at the meet.Posted on: 2003-12-16 04:34
