Family of former police trainee forced to flee
RAUTAHAT, DEC 15 - Family members of Gagan Dev Baitha, a former police trainees were forced to seek refuge in Gaur, the district headquarters, after Maoists locked their house in Tengraha VDC-6.
"When I was a trainee with the police patrol team, Maoists locked my house and confiscated our land on charges that I was spying against them. Now, that I am without a job with the police we are living on loans," said Baitha, who lost his job three months ago, according to Baitha.
Last year, the Maoists had abducted Baitha’s sister, Gandhi Devi accusing Baitha of working as a police informant. She was released after two days.
His dismissal from the job, at a crucial hour has deeply hurt him, as he has no way of maintaining his family, lamented Baitha.
However, police sources stated that Baitha was employed as a temporary member in the patrol team. Since he disappeared without a notice during training, he was sacked from the police force, according to the source.
Baitha says that he cannot return home until the peace is restored in the country.Posted on: 2003-12-16 04:43
