Passengers stranded for two days in Fatepur

POST REPORT

FATEPUR, DEC 14 - A report from Fatepur in Saptari district says that dozens of passengers, en-route to Khotang and Bhojpur, have been stranded at Fatepur due to the strike called by Bus Entrepreneurs Association and clashes between the security forces and Maoist rebels yesterday.
The Bus Entrepreneurs Association of Beltar had yesterday initiated the strike following assaults by a group of assailants who hurled stones at buses and caused extensive damage to the buses last Thursday. A Bijay Transport bus running from Beltar to Kakarvitta, and a Shankar bus plying on the Beltar-Fatepur-Kanchanpur route going to Dharan suffered extensive damages.
The situation in the region deteriorated further after five Maoists, including four women were killed in clashes with security personnel yesterday evening at Apraha in Siddhipur Village Development Committee of Udayapur district.
It is learnt that all vehicular transport plying on the 25-kilometre road from Fatepur to Apraha, situated in the northern part of Udayapur, have come to a halt since the last two days.Posted on: 2003-12-15 04:27
