Micro-hydels proving boon to villagers

PARBAT, DEC 13 - Micro hydel projects in six Village Development Committees (VDC) of this district have benefited more than 5000 locals, reports say.
The projects assisted by Ministry of Science and Technology, and United Nations Development Project (UNDP), are run by the Rural Energy Development (RED) branch of the District Development Committee Parbat.
RED branch officials say that 100 kilowatts of electricity produced by this project has
been used by 838 households in six VDCs in
the district namely, Bhoksingh, Bhuktanglay, Bachha, Kyang, Saraukhola and
Pangrang.
Another micro hydel project of 43.5 kilowatts capacity is also set to start which will benefit a total of 2380 people of 414 households of Saraukhola, Bachha, and Pangrang, once the production begins. The project will be extended to Beulibash and Vorlay VDCs, according to RED branch officials.
According to the chief of the RED branch, Ashish Kumar Aryal, the energy development programme is being conducted focussing on community mobilization and organisation development, skill development, fund mobilization, technology promotion, environment protection and conservation, and woman empowerment for uplifting the life of the rural people.
It is learnt that 26 energy-work groups, 14 forest-work groups, and 19 groups for
