New IT policy to be presented in a week

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, JAN 20 -
The Ministry of Science and Technology has said that it will submit the much awaited revised Information Technology (IT) Policy to the cabinet within a week for its approval.

"Everything has been finalised except the work of accommodating a few inputs received from the line ministries," said Ram Hari Aryal, secretary of the Ministry of Science. He said that the ministry was awaiting inputs from the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Law and the Information and Communications Ministry.

The revised policy would incorporate issues related to e-governance, electronic traction and outsourcing companies with an aim to generate more IT-related employment in the country.

"The revised policy will help boost development in software, hardware and human resources," said Aryal. "Apart from this, the policy will also show how to promote the private sector to increase IT-based industries under the concept of public private partnership."

According to the High Level Commission for Information Technology, after the endorsement of the policy, it will introduce a three-year work plan to effectively implement the policy for the development of the IT sector in the country.

"It has become necessary to fix a work plan as most of the policies could not be implemented effectively," said Manohar Bhattarai, vice president of the commission.

The new revised policy is said to have been prepared in a way so

as to help boost the use of information technology at the root level and helping ultimately to develop the IT sector.
