Bhutanese refugees’ memo to Dutch Parliament

BIRTAMOD, DEC 12 - A delegation of Bhutanese refugees in Europe handed over a memorandum to the Dutch Parliament onWednesday regarding the human rights situation in Bhutan.
The delegation headed by Durga Giri, general secretary and in-charge of foreign affairs of the Bhutan People’s Party (BPP) handed over the memorandum apprising the Dutch Parliament of the human rights situation in Bhutan.The delegate also informed the Dutch Parliament that the just concluded 15th round of JVT meeting between Nepal and Bhutan did not guarantee citizenship to refugees who will be returning to Bhutan in February. It also did not allow the UNHCR to involve in the repatriation process.
Among other things, the Bhutanese delegation expressed serious concerns over the apprehension of the refugees regarding getting back their original lands they had left behind at the time of fleeing the country.Posted on: 2003-12-13 04:32
