Hospital sans doctors in Manthali district

POST REPORT

MANTHALI, DEC 10 - Patients at the Ramechhap District Hospital as well as those patients coming for treatment are in quandary as there are no doctors available. This situation has been prevailing in the hospital for the past 20 days after the only doctor working there, Abdul Rahaman, has been staying on leave.
This district hospital with a 15-bed capacity was supposed to have a posting of two doctors, but only Rahaman had been handling all the patients admitted to this hospital so far.
Now unprofessional health workers are providing medical service to the patients visiting this hospital for treatment. Due to this, many patients have stopped going to the hospital these days, reiterate some of locals. It is learnt that everyday about 20 to 25 patients have been dropping by, while six patients are presently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The District Health Office (DHO) is unaware about when Rahaman will be back from his leave.
It is also learnt that the doctor at the Primary Health Service Centre (PHSC), Dr. Ambuj Karna, has been absent for quite some time. According to the centre, Dr. Karna had left for Janakpur three days ago. Around 30 patients with various ailments have been coming to this health centre everyday.Posted on: 2003-12-11 04:40
