5 Indians held with books on war tactics
BHAIRAHAWA, DEC 10 - Indian police today arrested five Indian nationals along with a huge cache of Maoist literature on guerrilla warfare, which they were trying to smuggle into Nepal from across the Nepal-India border.
Nepali police officials stationed at Belhiya customs point said that the Indian police at Nawatanawa Thana arrested the Indians along with the document ~ ~ and Indian and Nepali currencies from the Nepal-India border at Marchawar, located about 20 km southwest of here, the district headquarters of Rupandehi district.
The arrested have been identified as Bishwonath Gupta, Ram Narayan, Anirudra Prasad and Ghanashyam, all of Maharajgunj district, and Pradeep Jaisawal of Gorakhpur.
Indian police seized 1,660 copies of books on guerrilla warfare, Indian currency Rs 63,000 and Nepali currency Rs 5,000 from them. The seized books are in two volumes and have been published by the People’s’ Liberation Army, Western Central Command Division, CPN (Maoist), according to Police inspector Shailendra Regmi in Belhiya customs point.Regmi quoted the Indian police as saying that the arrested Indian nationals had close links with Nepali Maoists for the last three years.
The arrested people are learnt to have admitted having supplied books on guerrilla warfare and other printed materials to Napali Maoists for the last three years.
Requesting anonymity, an Indian police officer told The Kathmandu Post that they were sympathetic to the Maoist cause and used to travel to various parts of Nepal posing themselves as cloth merchants. All of them were sent to Gorakhpur jail today, said the Indian police official. The accused on interrogation are also learnt to have revealed to the Indian police detailed accounts of the whereabouts of Nepali Maoists.Posted on: 2003-12-11 04:46
