Maoists gun down police inspector in Dhanusha

KATHMANDU, DEC 08 - A group of armed rebels shot dead a police inspector in Dhanusha district in broad daylight today.
According to Police Headquarters, the rebels shot dead police inspector Naresh Pokharel at Patrewa of the Thilla Yaduwa Village Development Committee at about 11 in the morning.
The rebels also looted a cellular mobile set, a Chinese-made pistol and 21 rounds of ammunition belonging to the slain police inspector. Inspector Pokharel, deputed at Sabaila Area Police Post, was travelling in his motorbike when the rebels attacked him suddenly.
Security sources said the rebels first snatched the inspector’s pistol and used the same to shoot him dead. The rebels fired three bullets – two on the forehead and one on the chest – before escaping.Pokharel’s body has been brought to the Janakpur Zonal Hospital for post-mortem.Posted on: 2003-12-09 04:31
