Tourism entrepreneurs ask to review curfew

POST REPORT

CHITWAN, DEC 08 - Tourism entrepreneurs of the district have urged the government and local administration to shorten the time of curfew imposed in the district, as it has been adversely affecting the local tourism.
At present, curfew in the district begins from seven in the evening and lasts till four in the morning. The early restriction in human movement in the district has not only affected the tourists visiting to the district but it has equally affected the tourists who come to visit Chitwan from other major tourist destinations.
"A large number of tourists moving to and from the other major tourists destinations needs to travel through Chitwan and early start of curfew has been affecting them too," said they.
Speaking at an interaction programme on "Impact of Curfew in Current Gloom in the Tourism Industry", Madan Lal Joshi, First Vice President of Narayanghat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that the curfew that starts at the prime time of tourists check-in has discouraged the mobility and arrival of visitors, thus affecting the industry as a whole.
"As security check-up at places holds up the traffic movement, thereby raising chances of untimely arrival of guests in the district, the government should review the time of curfew, pushing it a bit later," he said. "In most of such cases, at present, visitors have been found of being at loss," he said.
Raj Kumar Shrestha, Executive Member of Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN), said that the beginning of curfew at seven in the evening, when mobility of tourists is at peak, has affected the tourists from enjoying their trips. "This has added discomfort to the tourists that already go through a rough travel due to security check-up at various places to reach the destination," said Pabitra Lal Chuke, a tourism entrepreneur.
Dilip Mainali, member-secretary of Chitwan Tourism Board made a presentation on the latest scenario of tourism industry in the district.Posted on: 2003-12-09 03:48
