Centre seeks help for delivery of elderly woman ousted by family

SARLAHI, DEC 08 - Padma Bhuwaneshwori Briddha Sewa Ashram (PBBSA), a home for the aged in Sarlahi district, has expressed its willingness to take in an elderly woman thrown out of her house by her own family members in Ramechhap district, a few days ago.
Expressing concern over the situation of Laxmi Poudel, 80, who was severely beaten and expelled from her own home, Basudev Koirala, Chairman of PBBSA, said that he is worried over the state of the helpless woman.
Nepali national daily Kantipur, sister publication of The Kathmandu Post, had carried the story of Poudel’s ouster, last Friday.Condemning the incident, Chairman Koirala has appealed to individuals and organisations to help the elderly Poudel reach the PBBSA.
"I would be grateful to any person or institution that would bring the elderly lady here so that we could take care of her," said Chairman Koirala expressing his inability to visit Ramechhap himself.
The PBBSA, set up under Koirala’s initiative five years ago, has20 aged people availing of the services of the home, according to Koirala.Posted on: 2003-12-09 04:23
