Locals construct Reli Maya memorial
KATHMANDU, DEC 07 - Locals of Doramba started construction works of Stupa, a memorial for Reli Maya Tamang, a community health workers, who was murdered by the Maoists.
The memorial is being constructed in front of the District Health Office in Ramechap.
Tamang had served here as a health worker for 14 years before she was abducted and murdered by the Maoists three months ago.
Family members and the locals have asked the donors to voluntarily contribute for the construction of the memorial. Chandika Lal, late Reli Maya’s husband is staying in Kathmandu following the incident. The Maoists have captured lands and property of Tamang, which is estimated to be equivalent to a sum Rs 5.2 million.
Bereaved family members have asked for the compensation from the District Administration Office (DAO). According to the DAO, the government has taken up the issue.Posted on: 2003-12-08 04:41
