CIAA chief addresses Asia-Pacific meet on graft
KATHMANDU, DEC 04 - Chief of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Surya Nath
Upadhyaya today addressed the Asia-Pacific Regional Conference Against Corruption held in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur, according to a statement from CIAA issued here.
The three-day conference was organised by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the CIAA statement further added.
On the occasion, Upadhyaya presented his paper entitled "Efforts Taken in Nepal to Control Corruption". He said that efforts were in place to develop capable manpower to tackle corruption issues in Nepal. He told the gathering that Nepal had a special court to deal with cases of corruption. Such a court has had been legally empowered to investigate the bank accounts of suspected individuals and their property holdings.
The conference, which will continue up to December 5, was inaugurated amidst the presence of representatives from Australia, Canada, Brazil, Germany, Denmark, the UK, the US and a host of other countries which had ratified the convention on corruption.Posted on: 2003-12-03 10:57
