NTC’s first quarter revenue up by 9.75 pc
KATHMANDU, DEC 04 - Revenue mobilisation of the state-owned Nepal Telecommunications Corporation (NTC) during the first three months of the current fiscal year grew by 9.75 percent compared to the amount of the corresponding period of last fiscal year.
The increment in the revenue mobilisation during this period can be regarded encouraging given the fact that NTC has been losing a considerable amount of revenue due to interruption of services as Maoists had damaged its repeater stations in various parts of the country.
According to the latest data of NTC, the total revenue mobilisation during the first three months of fiscal year 2003/04 stood at Rs 1.16 billion whereas the revenue collection in the like period last year was Rs 1.06 billion.
The revenue mobilisation during the period stands at 24.29 percent of total the projected revenue that the NTC aimed to collect during the entire fiscal year. NTC has projected to collect Rs 4.79 billion in the current fiscal year.
The corporation had projected to collect revenue of Rs 4.51 billion annually last fiscal year and had mobilised Rs 1.06 billion during the first three months. This was 23.49 percent of the total target set for the year.
Source-wise revenue statistics of the corporation revealed that the corporation, like previous years, earned major chunk of its revenue from basic telephony. It collected Rs 517 million from it in the first quarter, which was Rs 467 million during the similar period the year before. The contribution of STD and ISD too was considerable.
The STD service contributed Rs 368 million and the ISD service contributed Rs 273 million to the revenue of the corporation during the first three months of this fiscal year. The figures in the last fiscal year were Rs 335 million and Rs 252 million respectively.
Similarly, NTC collected Rs 1 million and Rs 1.5 million from operator assisted (OA) national and international calls respectively in the first three months of fiscal year 2003/04, while the same was Rs 1.7 million and Rs 1.3 million respectively during the like period of the last fiscal year.
The telecom operator mobilised a total of Rs 363 million during the third month (mid-September to mid-October) of the current fiscal year while it had collected Rs 359 million during the same month last year.
The corporation raised Rs 260 thousand from data line and Rs 2.9 million from telex during the period while the revenue collected from these sources in the similar period last year were Rs 191 thousand and Rs 3.1 million respectively.Posted on: 2003-12-03 10:30
