Minister lauds food corporation
KATHMANDU, DEC 04 - Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Hari Bahadur Basnet, inaugurating a programme organised on the occasion of the 29th anniversary of Nepal Food Corporation here today, said since no institution could become self-reliant if it wholly depends upon government grants, Nepal Food Corporation should pay special attention to improving its services apart from adopting professionalism.
Lauding the Corporation for regularly supplying food grain to food-deficit remote areas of the country at fair price and in an expeditious manner, Minister Basnet said although problems in the supply and distribution of food grain have been faced due to reasons of security, food grain supply should not be stopped.
He also gave assurances of the government’s co-operation in this regard.
It has been observed that there is a lack of interest towards agricultural production among farmers of several districts where the Corporation has been supplying food grain, Minister Basnet stated, and suggested that the Corporation work to foster interest in agriculture among the farmers of those areas.
The Corporation should make arrangements for purchasing and marketing the agricultural produce grown by farmers of those remote areas, he stressed.Posted on: 2003-12-03 10:39
