Sir Jeoffrey, Nepal discuss crisis resolution
KATHMANDU, DEC 04 - The visiting British special envoy to Nepal Sir Jeoffrey James held talks with the CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal at the CPN-UML central office here today.
Sources said the talks dwelled on what the CPN-UML would like to have as the solution of the current crisis with the Nepali Congress (NC) reiterating restoration of the House of Representatives as part of corrective measures in the constitutional process.
Sources said Nepal apprised Sir James about the latest turn of events in the political front, with formation of an all-party government as the best solution.
"We discussed current issues and I told him that any solution of the current crisis should include formation of the all-party government," Nepal told The Kathmandu Post.
Nepal also said that the ouster of the incumbent government was central to the issue even as he told the visiting
diplomat that the political
parties must have a say in
not only forming a new government but they must also have complete say in evolving a new constitutional mechanism.
"The talks dwelled on how to restore peace and that included ways which can be expected to empower the people and the democratic process," Nepal further said, adding that the constitutional course needed to be corrected with the representatives of the people gaining the centrestage.
Sir James is scheduled to meet NC (D) leader Sher Bahadur Deuba tomorrow morning at the latter’s residence. Sir James also met representatives of the donor agencies.
Sir James who is monitoring the crisis since last February is currently on a visit to Nepal and is expected to meet King Gyanendra in connection with the need to restore the constitutional process.Posted on: 2003-12-03 10:49
