TCCI fails to supply oranges to B’desh
TANAHU, DEC 03 - An agreement reached between Tanahu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI) and a group of Bangladeshi traders on the purchase of Nepali oranges has been breached this year since the former failed to supply the oranges to Bangladesh.
As per the agreement signed four years ago, TCCI had been delegated with the authority to purchase the oranges from the farmers and supply them to Bangladesh. "As the farmers already sold the oranges to the contractors from the orchards with blossoming of flowers in trees, Scarcity of orange has been emerged in the district, making TCCI fail to supply oranges to Bangladesh," said Shree Bhadra Khanal, Secretary of TCCI. The farmers, meanwhile, said that they were compelled to sell the orange from their orchards due to poverty.
"The farmers are not getting reasonable price for their productions while selling to contractors," he said.
He added that the farmers could have got Rs 40-50 for per kilogram of orange if they had sold for Bangladesh.Posted on: 2003-12-02 10:58
