Kala-azar week in endemic districts
KATHMANDU, DEC 03 - Kala-azar week was conducted from November 24 to 30 in the Kala-azar endemic districts of Nepal, according to a press statement issued here yesterday.
The Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, Department of Health Services, Ministry of Health and the District Health Offices/District Public Health Offices, in collaboration with the Environmental Health Project (EHP) conducted the programme.
An awareness campaign focusing on specific messages for prevention and control was conducted through various media in the Kala-azar affected districts of Nepal, targeting the border population and community vulnerable to Kala-azar with active participation of community leaders and health personnel.
The campaign that was implemented in the affected border VDCs of Dhanusha and Mahottari was concentrated and much more focused. Kala-azar is widely prevalent in the eastern border districts of Nepal and in the adjoining Bihar state of India.Posted on: 2003-12-02 10:36
