Students threaten agitation
KATHMANDU, DEC 02 - The alliance of seven agitating student organisations Monday issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Ministry of Education and Sports and the universities to implement the agreements on various issues concluded between them.
The ultimatum was issued after a joint meeting held by the seven student organisations today in the Capital.
They have warned of undertaking a massive agitation if the authorities fail to implement the reforms within two weeks, the statement said.
Student bodies have been protesting for the lowering of fees and freeing of school education from any kind of charge.
Nepal Students’ Union (NSU), All Nepal Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU-United), ANNFSU, ANNFSU(ML), Nepal Revolutionary Students’ Union, Nepal Students’ Forum and Nepal Democratic Students’ Union were among those represented during the meeting today.
Talking to The Kathmandu Post after the meeting, Gagan Thapa, general secretary of NSU, said a memorandum was also submitted to the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES), Tribhuvan University, Mahendra Sanskrit University, Purbanchal University, Pokhara University and the Higher Secondary Education Board.
"We were keeping quiet for sometime waiting for the implementation of our demands now we will not remain silent," he said.Posted on: 2003-12-01 10:44
