Women’s legal rights discussed

ITAHARI, DEC 02 - The Legal Assistance and Consultancy Centre (LACC), Sunsari, organised a discussion programme on the civil code and women’s legal rights here on Sunday.The discussion was organised with the main objective of inform women about the impartial treatment meted out to women by the state, society and family and other problems and the legal provisions concerning them. On the occasion, chairperson of LACC, Prof. Dr Shanta Thapaliya, said the principal law of the state the constitution and other laws have not been able to exhibit equality between men and women which is the main reason behind increase in crimes and suppression against women.
She also emphasised the need to expand educational awareness along with a struggle by women to break the barriers of injustice in the Nepali society. President of Red Cross, Itahari, Ram Chandra Adhikari, advocate of LACC Chattra Gurung, ex-president of Itahari Jaycees, Bimal Poudel and other speakers also expressed their views.Posted on: 2003-12-01 10:58
