Awareness programme on iodised salt in 8 VDCs

BIRGUNJ, DEC 02 - NGO district co-ordination committee, Parsa, UNICEF field office, Birgunj and Salt Trading Corporation Limited, Birgunj, jointly launched ‘Awareness about iodised salt’ programme in eight different VDCs of Parsa district. The programme aims at promoting awareness of the people at border areas, where most of the people have been using non-iodised salt imported from India, and encouraging the consumption of iodised salt in order to prevent different diseases and disorders caused by the deficiency of iodine.Only about 65 percent people in Nepal are using iodised salt, according to a study report.
A person should have a daily intake of 50 pm iodine in Nepal, according to the experts.Posted on: 2003-12-01 11:00
