King stands exposed: Koirala

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, NOV 30 - President of the Nepali Congress (NC) Girija Prasad Koirala today said that the regressive steps taken by the king have been exposed even in the international arena.
The king would do well if he bridges the gap with the NC, Koirala said, adding "this done (rapproachment), both could take the rebels easily."
Koirala also told the party workers of Bheri and Rapti zone to get ready for the tenth round of agitation, a report from Nepalgunj said.
Meanwhile, addressing a gathering of students belonging to the Nepal Students Union here, the NC CWC member, Dr Ram Sharan Mahat claimed that the political parties were winning back international support even as they are expressing disenchantment at virtually no efforts being taken to have the elected bodies.
Referring to the recent US $70 million and US$ 75 million assistance which had come from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Dr Mahat revealed that the agencies had asked him in writing whether the assistance should be released.
"Of course I could not say no to them since the money is meant for the people," Dr Mahat said, stressing the fact that the government should in no way claim the assistance as a recognition to the continued royal intervention.Posted on: 2003-11-29 10:16
