FUNGLING, TAPLEJUNG, NOV 30 - The collapse of a suspension bridge at its centre over the Suwa river at Angkhop in the north-eastern part of Taplejung has led to the death of one person and left four others injured today.
The dead has been identified as Pahalman Katuwal of Kalikhola Village Development Committee (VDC), while the injured are 65-year-old Harka Bahadur Karki, 24-year-old Shree Prasad Katuwal, 50-year-old Til Bahadur Karki, and 50-year-old Yagya Raj Karki.
According to the information provided by the locals there, all the victims of this incident are residents of Kalikhola and were heading for the district headquarters, Taplejung, when the ill-fated incident occurred.
Pahalman died as the rope gave way at the central portion and he happened to be at the centre of this bridge. The collapse of the bridge at this point threw Pahalman down into deep water at the centre of the river. The others who survived the fall were injured after falling on the rocks on either sides of the bridge.Posted on: 2003-11-29 11:17
