Mysterious death of Nepali youth in Malaysia

POST REPORT

TEHRATHUM, NOV 29 - A Nepali youth was mysteriously found dead inside a toilet in Malaysia last Sunday, according to the information provided through a phone call by the friend of the deceased, another Nepali working in Malaysia. However, there is no official confirmation to his death, which has put the family of the deceased in a dilemma, as to what is the truth.
It is learnt that 32-year-old, Purna Thapa, a permanent resident of Mahin Tappa in Simlay-7 of Tehrathum who had recently been living in Shibagunj-4 of Jhapa district had left for Malaysia last year in mid-August with the hope of making good money working for a company in Malaysia. He had been working for a company called Inex in Malaysia. In order to arrange for a work in Malaysia Purna had spent around Rs. 100,000.
According to information provided by Purna’s wife’s elder sister in Jhapa, Meena Ojha, Purna had made a phone call to her a day before this ill-fated incident took place, saying that he was in good health and was doing fine in his work. He had even asked for his father Ratna Bahadur Thapa on the phone to talk about some home affairs, Ojha informed. The Thapa family back home was shocked to receive the news of Purna’s death the very next day through a phone call by some Nepalese in Malaysia. The person informed that Purna’s dead body was found inside the toilet.
The Thapa family has not been able to come to terms with the news of the death of their son for the past six days, as they have not received any official confirmation in this regard from the concerned government body, even though they have been making rounds to the office asking them to make investigation of this incident and to let them know about the truth as soon as possible. They have pleaded the government to take necessary steps in this direction . It is learnt that this family has not received any phone call from Malaysia after the first one informing of Purna Thapa’s death.
Geeta Thapa, wife of the deceased, with her 11-month-old daughter in Jhapa has been waiting in anticipation for the confirmed news of her husband’s death and if so to receive his dead body. Posted on: 2003-11-28 11:14
