Govt urged to close 'illegal' army cell

KATHMANDU, NOV 29 - Speakers at the programme, "Writers for the Protection of Pen", organised by the "Federation of Progressive Writers Nepal" urged the government to stop every illegal army cell. " The country should stop every illegal prison, which is banned even at the international level," said Dr. Bogendra Sharma, human rights activist.
He remarked that arresting of writers was the proof of the existence of army cell in the country. He said human rights activists were harassed by the state. "Unnecessary search at our residents is not allowing us to remain free," he said.
Nabin Bivash, writer, who was recently released from an army cell, briefing his sufferings inside the cell said that he never had a hope of life when he was inside prison. He also said that he was not yet completely released as he was attending dates.
Similarly, an advocate Krishna Prasad Bhandari observed that King was hiring unconstitutional personalities in the Constitutional
Council. "In this sort of situation ill will gets victory over
virtue," he said.
Krishna Pahadi, human rights activist stressed the role of civil society, which was vital to stop illegal happenings in the society. "Silence of civil society is one of the responsible factors for the arrest of writers," he said. He asked the people in general to raise issues on the release of those people whose whereabouts were still unknown.
"Talking about human rights is challenging, where the Maoists get allergic with the issue of peace and the government with the issue of human rights," he said.. He said that judiciary in the country had failed.
Khagendra Sangraula expressing his standpoint about the arrest of the general public said Purna Biram and Nabin were just examples, there were other numbers of people in the illegal cell of army. He remarked there would be no use of pen in the military power. Writers, Purna Biram and Nabin were recently released with the initiation of various sectors of the society.
