‘Over 25,000 Bhutanese refugees unregistered’
KATHMANDU, NOV 28 - A regional human rights organisation has revealed that as many as 25,000 Bhutanese nationals have failed to get their names registered as refugees due to different procedural mistakes. The unregistered Bhutanese are living in Nepal and India.
Disclosing the finding of a study on the condition of the unregistered Bhutanese political refugees amidst a programme today, South Asia Forum for Human Rights (SAFHR) has urged the both the government and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to grant them refugee status.
Meanwhile, the Nepal-Bhutan Joint Verification Team will begin the verification process of those refugees of the Khudunabari camp who have applied for review for verification from December 1.
