Mother of triplets worried about their upbringing

POST REPORT

PALPA, NOV 27 - A woman who gave birth to triplets is now worried about their care and upbringing. The three babies were born to 25-year-old Bandana Thapa of Batase in Palungmainadi Village Development Committee (VDC) in western Palpa last October 24.
The babies are now one-and-a-half month old, but their name-giving rites are yet to be conducted. The babies and their mother are still in the hospital and the doctors there say that they must be kept for another one-and-a—half months. It is learnt that these babies are kept within a glass case in the United Mission Hospital, and are under the surveillance of the nurses there. The triplets had to be kept under such an arrangement, as they were born two months prior to the normal delivery period.
The 25-year-old mother contends that the Almighty has gifted her with these babies, and she willingly accepted them.
Though the naming rites of these babies could not be conducted, the doctors there have come up with names for them, on their own. They have decided to name them as, Ganga, Jamuna, and Sagar. Bandana says that though she had telephoned her husband to give him the news, she has not been able to maintain any link with him so far. It has been almost a month-and-a-half since she tried to contact her husband and wonders whether her husband has received information about the birth of the triplets.
Bandana now has three daughters, and a son to look after. The economical condition of the family is very bad with the meagre earnings of her husband just to keep them alive, and the very thought of their survival has been worrying her day in and day out. Despite such hardship, Bandana is not yet willing to undergo any family planning procedure. She says that she will not resort to this procedure until her children turn eight to ten years of age.Posted on: 2003-11-26 11:35
