5 Maoists shot dead in Dang, Dailekh
KATHMANDU, NOV 27 - Five Maoists fell to latest security actions in Dang and Dailekh district in the mid-western region, according to reports.
A report from Dang said that four Maoists were killed during an encounter with the security forces at Asurkot Village of the western Pawannagar VDC this afternoon. The security forces killed the rebels who were waiting in an ambush. Sources said the slain rebels are yet to be identified.
In yet another incident in Dailekh, an unidentified Maoist messenger, approximately 25 years of age, was killed during an action at Danda Parajul area. A team of security personnel on a regular patrol took action against him when he tried to escape from security check. The security forces recovered letters, Maoists literature and newspapers from a bag carried by the slain Maoist.
Security forces had been mobilised in the Danda Parajul area acting on a tip-off about the Maoists who were preventing youth from joining the government forces.
Another report from Dang said that a woman was injured today when she stumbled upon a socket bomb reportedly left behind by Maoists during their attack in Bhalubang-base Armed Police Force based camp. She has been identified as Bhuma Devi Kandel of Pakhapani Village of Lalmatiya VDC who was returning home from a forest nearby.
In Jumla, Maoist rebels exploded a powerful bomb targeting the tower of Jumla Airport on Tuesday night. But the explosion caused no significant damage to the tower. The rebels had disconnected electricity to the airport before exploding the bomb there. Manager of the airport Deepak Bajracharya said that flights from Nepalgunj and Surkhet would not be affected in spite of the explosion.Posted on: 2003-11-26 11:32
