Donors uneasy investing in ‘democratic vacuum’: Lemp
KATHMANDU, NOV 27 - German Ambassador to Nepal Rudiger Lemp today said that it was uncomfortable for the donor countries to provide assistance to Nepal at a time when there were no more elected local bodies.
He, however, added that their assistance would continue provided that there were other responsible organisations to act in place of them.
Speaking at a function organised in his honour in the district headquarters of Dadeldhura, Lemp warned that attracting toward barbaric violence would be very dangerous for Nepal’s future. He was hinting at the rebel Maoists when he made this remark. He also pointed out the need of elected bodies, as investments made in the "democratic vacuum" would bring about no good results.
"It is unfortunate to arise such situation at a time when all should remain united to fight poverty," he said, adding that all should try their best to find out a peaceful solution to the ongoing violence.
Dadeldhura District Development Committee Chairman Bhojendra Chhetri and Chief District Officer Yograj Pandey had felicitated Lemp on behalf of the people of the district.Posted on: 2003-11-26 11:33
