A report from Syangja said that inspector of the Armed Police Force Hari Bahadur Basnet and head constable Ajit Jha were killed today in a landmine explosion near Bhakunde, located about 25 kilometres south of the district headquarters. Two Nepal Police personnel were also injured in the explosion and they were rushed to hospital for treatment.
Around 70 security personnel were on a regular patrol led by deputy superintendent of police Bikash Shrestha when rebels detonated the electric landmine. Deceased Basnet had resigned his post only three days ago.

In yet another report from Jhapa in the east stated that three police personnel, including two junior police officers, were killed and six others wounded when Maoists ambushed them at Maguramadi of Mechi Municipality this afternoon. Those killed in the bomb blast were two assistant sub-inspectors of police (ASI), Dambar Khadka and Deepak Adhikari, and policeman Jagat Thapa.
They were killed when a vehicle they were travelling in hit a landmine laid by rebels. Amidst the dispute, an unidentified man had shot Subba. Police suspect that a Maoist rebel was responsible for attacking Subba. Two Maoists were also killed in the shootout.
All the injured policemen and Subba were rushed to the B P Koirala Memorial Hospital in Dharan for treatment.
Meanwhile, in Rautahat, two Maoists were killed in a security action today in Gamhariya Birta VDC. The slain rebels have been identified as Dewan Raut Kurmi of the Akarpatar VDC and Nabal Kishor Sah of the Bahuari VDC.Posted on: 2003-11-24 08:55
