Maoist strike

NOV 24 - The indefinite strike by the Maoists in academic institutions in Karnali and Bheri zones is a cowardly manifestation of armed insurgency. When all resources have been spent, the rebels are peddling softer targets to make their face presence in a world that is getting increasingly terrorised, despite the American "war on terror."At least 100 thousand students will be affected by this Maoist strike. Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa is steadfastly sticking to quashing the insurgency by using military force. He has not even made a single notable attempt to bring the Maoists to the negotiating table. Instead he churns out provocatively fanciful concept such as "unified command" or "civil-military command."
No conflict can be resolved through bullets. But it does not mean that the rebels should be given a soft deal while they continue to kill and destroy. In all mayhem inherent in any armed conflict, all efforts, in thoughts and action, should be careened towards negotiation. Meanwhile, it is to be hoped that no Mudbhara incident —where five school students were killed in a crossfire between Maoists and security forces—will repeat in mid-western region, the venue of the indefinite strike.Subas Limbu,
