Nott, Shahadev through to semifinals
KATHMANDU, NOV 18 - Elizabeth Nott and Shahadev advanced to the semifinals of the mixed doubles category of second Jaikar Memorial Open Tennis Tournament beating Laxman and Wagnes 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 today.
In the three-set thriller the pair of Nott and Shahadev showed great resilience to clinch the first set 6-4. Laxman and Wagnes, after suffering early hiccups, started finding their rhythm giving Nott and Shahadev a good run for their money.
By virtue of their great combination, they outwitted Nott and Shahadev in tired duo of Laxman and Wagnes surrendered the third set 6-1.
Seven veterans’ doubles matches were held on day IV of the tournament. The match between Jushram and Raju Shrestha and M Shah and Rajesh turned out to be the most competitive match of the day. The pair of M Shah and Rajesh bounced back from a set down to win the match 2-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Six men’s singles matches of the second round were also held Monday. Sanu Gurung, who defeated Dawa Sonam Sherpa on the first day, failed to continue his winning streak when Kumar Adhikari pulled a thrilling three-set victory over experienced Gurung. Gurung won the first set 6-2 but Adhikari managed a 7-5 second set win over Gurung and forced the match for the deciding set. Adhikari easily cruised into the quarterfinal of the men’s singles beating Gurung by 6-3 in the decider.
