Concerns raised over illegal arrests by security personnel

KATHMANDU, NOV 19 - The Informal Service Centre (INSEC) has expressed concern over the increased illegal arrests and disappearances of citizens by security personnel from different parts of the country.
In a press statement issued today, INSEC mentioned that other organisations like the United Nations and the Amnesty International have appealed to stop the disappearances of citizens and condemned such instances. Similarly, INSEC has appealed for the whereabouts of six individuals to be made public. Ram Chandra Bhandari of Ramechhap in Kathmandu, Indra Bahadur Aryal, Mukunda Prasad Panth of Dhading, Shomsher Rupakheti of Nuwakot, Karshang Lama of Kathmandu, Yog Prasad Thapatliya of Kavre have been arrested by security personnel in separate instances, said INSEC.
The families do not have any information on the whereabouts of those arrested, said the statement. INSEC said the illegal detention of the citizens were the violation of human rights and international humanitarian law. Meanwhile, the Amnesty International has issued separate releases expressing concern over the arrests of seven people from different parts of the country. Those arrested are Sanjiv Kumar Karna, Durgesh Kumar Labh, Pramod Narayan Mandal, Sailendra Yadav, Jitendra Jha, Gyan Bahadur Maharjan and Rajesh Maharjan.Posted on: 2003-11-18 09:25
