Maoist victims unaware of govt quota for foreign employment

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, NOV 16 - Victims of Maoist insurgency have demanded inclusion of their organisation in the selection process for foreign employment.
Ganesh Chiluwal, president of the Maoist Victims Association (MVA), said that Maoist victims have not been consulted so far for the implementation of the government’s recent decision to send Maoist’s victims abroad for employment.
"We’re not aware of it, nor do we know the process," he said.
He also wondered how the government would select the genuine victims without consulting the MVA. "Moreover, it’s a difficult process," Chiluwal said.
The government on Wednesday had decided to reserve 10 percent of the foreign jobs offered to Nepal for Maoist victims and underprivileged section of the society.
He also said that there was unsubstantiated information that a list of 200 people had already been prepared at the Ministry of Labour for foreign employment.
"I’ll enquire at the ministry concerned about it very soon," Chiluwal said.
He, however, raised doubts over impartial implementation the decision.
Recalling a similar decision taken by the then Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government, Chiluwal said, "Deuba never implemented the decision. Hope, past won’t be repeated this time."Posted on: 2003-11-15 08:38
