4-year-old critically hurt in Maoist firing
DHARAN, NOV 14 - A four-year-old child was seriously injured at Dugraha village of Sunsari district when Maoist rebels opened fire on Ganga Ram Mandal’s house Tuesday evening. The child, Shiv Ram Mandal, is receiving treatment at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences and his condition is critical.
Mandal was sitting on his father Krishna Dev’s shoulders when he was hit after the Maoists fired two bullet shots at Ganga Ram, a high school headmaster.
"I was running away with my son after the Maoists attacked my aged father-in-law. Both of us were attacked from very close," said Krishna Dev, who also received a bullet shot in his palm. "They attacked me even though I was holding a baby."
The villagers are living under terror for the past one month ever since the Maoists intensified their extortion campaign there. Three Maoist rebels were shot dead by the security forces recently in the village.Posted on: 2003-11-13 09:18
