Solution to current crisis discussed

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, NOV 11 - Kathmandu District Branch of Nepal Press Union today organised a discussion programme among journalists and three former parliamentarians on the current political turmoil and its solution.
Speaking at the programme, former Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Romi Gauchan Thakali urged the King, Maoists and pro-constitutional forces to prepare their desired draft of a future constitution and let it be decided by referendum.
"It is the only way to solve the present political problems," said Gauchan. "But for the fairness of the elections, the Maoists should hand over arms to a UN agency that monitors the elections."
Former member of the House of Representatives, Hari Bhakta Adhikari said the country would be drawn towards disintegration if the country does not get a statesman immediately. Former Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare, Kamala Panta accused the king of violating his own commitment by sidelining the pro-constitutional forces. Madhu Acharya, Kavre district chairman of Nepali Congress, urged the larger parties for taking a bold decision to end the political crises.Posted on: 2003-11-10 09:51
